[District of Columbia, November 16, 2021] – The DC Bar Foundation has named three new members to its Board of Directors. “We are excited about the diverse range of expertise and experiences these individuals will bring to the Foundation. Their leadership will help us continue to build a robust and expansive civil legal aid network in the District,” says DC Bar Foundation CEO Kirra Jarratt.
Meredith Fuchs is General Counsel of the financial technology firm Plaid, where she leads the Legal, Policy, Risk, and Compliance functions. Ms. Fuchs was part of the team that stood up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where she served as its General Counsel and Deputy Director. Before her work at Plaid, she served as Chief Regulatory Counsel at Capital One, partner at a prominent Washington, DC law firm, Chief Investigative Counsel to a Congressional Committee, and General Counsel for a nonprofit. Ms. Fuchs is the recipient of the American Library Association’s James Madison Award and was named to the National Law Journal’s list of 75 Outstanding Women Lawyers. She offers deep experience and expertise in banking and financial services law, consumer finance, financial crime, payments, administrative procedure, and information/technology law.
Tab Stewart serves as a Senior Vice President & Senior Counsel in ABA’s Prudential Regulation and Asset Management Group and manages Financial Services Standards. Mr. Stewart is a Certified Corporate Trust Specialist and leads the ABA Corporate Trust Committee. Mr. Stewart began his legal career at Greenberg Traurig and Nixon Peabody, focusing on public finance, infrastructure finance, and political law. He brings over 15 years of in-house bank and broker-dealer experience serving as Assistant or Associate General Counsel at JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Jeffries and Co., and most recently, the Bank of Montreal/Harris Bank.
Vernetta Walker is the President and CEO of Vernetta Walker & Associates Consulting, where she engages her passion for helping organizations maximize impact through leadership, intellectual engagement, and cultural competence. Before founding Vernetta Walker & Associates, she served as Chief Governance Officer and Vice President of Programs for BoardSource, Associate General Counsel and Director of Consulting for the Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations, Foundation Advocacy Counsel for the Alliance for Justice, and Director of the Administration of Justice Grants for the Florida Bar Foundation. In addition to her consulting work, Ms. Walker is a frequent speaker on leading nonprofit practices, sector trends, creating a culture of inclusion, and board advocacy.
