Partnership as a Strategy to Justice

At the heart of the DC Social Justice Transformations Network’s (DCSJTN) approach is a comprehensive strategy that focuses on coordination, collaboration, and systemic change. The Network was established in 2021 to foster relationship-building among organizations so they can establish systems to better support DC residents.

As an example of this work, Sheily Virella, pro bono manager at Christian Legal Aid of DC, shared how her organization has been able to build connections within the Network and help share knowledge and empower DC communities.

“Through the DCSJTN, I have seen the power of collaboration in action. As a result of personal interactions, Christian Legal Aid of DC has partnered with Legal Counsel for the Elderly, DC Bar Pro Bono Center, DC Affordable Law Firm, and Legal Aid DC to expand access to legal assistance through community events across DC's Wards. Together, through these events, we help residents safeguard their legacy, make informed end-of-life decisions, and protect loved ones, all while empowering our community to navigate a complex legal system with dignity and confidence.”

These types of partnerships and coordinated approaches allow providers to identify emerging needs more quickly and avoid duplicative efforts.

In another instance, Chris Marin, program director at the Washington Council of Lawyers, shared how their relationships within the Network help support other members.

“I co-lead the DCSJTN Orientation and Training Workshop, and I have built a strong relationship with my co-lead from the Neighborhood Legal Services Program. Together, we are developing resources people need to feel successful when they start a new position and grow in their careers.”

It has been affirming to see the personal relationships developed through the Network mature into new partnerships among organizations, all with the goal of changing systems and helping more people.

The next DCSJTN Convening will be on Tuesday, October 14. We will use this time to build our collective knowledge and collaboration to advocate for justice and support our communities during challenging times. I invite you to attend to see our work in action.

Sincerely,

Kirra L. Jarratt

Chief Executive Officer

Very insightful post. The Sikkim game is often misunderstood, and you managed to simplify it beautifully. I’ve started following your advice to monitor result patterns, and I’m noticing improvements already. Articles like this make the Sikkim game more enjoyable for serious players.
