Letter from the Executive Director

This Women’s History Month, we are remembering the disproportionate number of women in poverty, vulnerable situations, and in desperate need of legal assistance. In America:

  1. 1 in 3 women live in or near poverty.

  2. Two-thirds of minimum wage workers are women.

  3. More than two thirds of elderly Americans in poverty are women.

  4. 1 in 3 women has been the victim of domestic violence.

For women like these, legal aid can provide the vital help they need to protect their rights, their families, and their lives.

With your help, DCBF has served 30,000 District residents each year, providing critical legal aid and filling the gaps that continue a cycle of poverty. Thank you for partnering with us in this effort.

Sincerely,

Kirra L. Jarratt, Executive Director
