Apply to join the Young Lawyers Network Leadership Council

Emily Lagan and Lori Waichman, YLN LC Members and 2023 Avenues to Justice Co-Chairs

On July 12, the DC Bar Foundation's Young Lawyers Network Leadership Council (YLN LC) hosted its annual Avenues to Justice event, raising $68,993 for the District's civil legal aid network – far surpassing its initial goal of $60,000. Thank you to our corporate and individual sponsors (listed below) for their generosity, and to Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP for hosting.

YLN LC members collectively plan Avenues to Justice. We invite you to watch a recording of the panel conversation, which focused on the intersection of wellbeing and legal aid in the District, between George Jones of Bread for the City, Allison Dowling of the Georgetown University Health-Justice Alliance, and Daniel del Pielago of Empower DC.

The event's generous corporate and individual sponsors help the Foundation provide high-demand unrestricted dollars to DC legal aid organizations and loan repayment support for legal aid attorneys who sacrifice higher salaries to do their life-saving work. And while we raised an incredible amount, we are just $1,007 shy of reaching our stretch goal of $70,000. Will you help us close the gap by clicking here to make a gift?

The YLN LC is now accepting applications for new members who will serve two-year, renewable terms beginning in October 2023 and expiring in September 2025. As a reminder, we have expanded membership criteria to include attorneys at DCBF program partner (grantee) organizations and attorneys over 40 who are just beginning their legal careers.

Members serve as ambassadors who promote the Foundation's mission of furthering access to justice in DC by engaging in quarterly meetings, and networking dinners with members of our Board of Directors. They also have the opportunity to sit on DC Bar Foundation leadership committees and are key partners in raising funds to support the work of DC legal aid providers by planning events like Avenues to Justice. When you join the YLN LC, you get the opportunity to make a direct impact on District's civil legal aid network.

If you are interested in applying, please submit application materials (details on our website) to Greer Richey, development and communications specialist, at richey@dcbarfoudation.org by 5:00 PM on July 31.
