Adwoa Afreh, Program Officer

As an experienced professional, Adwoa joins the team as a program officer. She exhibits empathy and passion in every project she works on. Adwoa is committed to working on issues related to equity and advocates for the perspectives and people not often considered in her everyday work in the nonprofit sector. In her role as program officer, she looks forward to connecting with the DC community and using her skills in equity building to ensure marginalized DC residents have equal and fair access to justice.

Prior to joining the DC Bar Foundation, Adwoa served as an associate consultant and worked with nonprofits and foundations on contracts related to program management, diversity, equity and inclusion, and facilitation. She is a proficient communicator who leverages her previous experience working at an educational nonprofit and an employment law firm to connect with different stakeholders and demographics.

Born in Ghana, her identity combines West African roots with growing up in inner-city Chicago. Adwoa loves to create community everywhere she goes, including in the DMV area where she now resides. She is fluent in Twi, Fante, Pidgin, and English, with a passion for languages and lifelong learning.
