LOAN REPAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

LOAN REPAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

DCBF provides loan repayment assistance to qualified attorneys working for an eligible employer in DC in order to: (1) increase the number of experienced, skilled lawyers working on behalf of low-income DC residents; and (2) assist DC poverty lawyers who have incurred significant educational debt in obtaining their law degree. DCBF’s Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) provides one-year, interest-free, forgivable loans, of up to $12,000 per year, to qualified attorneys so they can continue providing exceptional legal assistance to low-income DC residents despite low salaries and high educational debt.

LRAP is available to attorneys employed with a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and who provide direct civil legal services to low-income DC residents (learn more about Eligible Employers here). The application is typically due in October, with awards announced in mid-December. The grant year is January 1 through December 31. Renewal of LRAP awards is not automatic; LRAP participants must apply each year to be considered.

DCBF runs two loan repayment assistance programs (LRAP) under a consolidated application process: (1) the publicly funded LRAP, referred to as Public LRAP; and (2) the privately funded LRAP, referred to as Private LRAP. DCBF places applicants into either Public LRAP or Private LRAP, depending on place of residence.
