[District of Columbia, July 9, 2015] – Kirra L. Jarratt, Executive Director of the DC Bar Foundation, has been elected to serve on the Board of Trustees for the National Conference of Bar Foundations (NCBF).
NCBF supports bar foundations across the nation by building capacity, community and partnerships among bar foundations and helping them promote their charitable missions. As part of NCBF’s Board of Trustees, Jarratt will help oversee the direction of NCBF and the fulfillment of its mission to promote law-related philanthropic giving and serve as a resource to NCBF’s network of more than 200 bar foundations.
Deborah Auspelmyer, the Executive Director of the New York State Bar Foundation, and Karen Ruan, the Executive Director of the Orange County Bar Foundation, were also elected to the Board of Trustees.
The DC Bar Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1977, is the largest funder of civil legal services in the District. The Bar Foundation’s mission is to fund, support, and improve legal representation of the poor, vulnerable, and otherwise disadvantaged in the District of Columbia, and it is committed to the vision that residents of the District have equal access to justice, regardless of income. The Foundation provides grants and training and technical assistance to local non-profit legal services organizations and awards loans to D.C. poverty lawyers to help with their educational debt.
