The Foundation
The DC Bar Foundation (DCBF), a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1977, funds, supports, and improves legal representation for the poor, vulnerable, and otherwise disadvantaged in DC, and we are committed to the vision that residents of the District have equal access to justice, regardless of income. We provide grants, training, and technical assistance to DC legal aid organizations and award loans to DC poverty lawyers to help with their educational debt.
The Foundation is located in the WeWork community on M Street in SE Washington D.C., right next to the Navy Yard/Ballpark Metro Station (green line).
Job Duties
This position plays a critical role in advancing the organization through fundraising and constituent outreach. Reporting to the Development Manager/Director, the Development and Communications Assistant will have the following responsibilities:
Provide general administrative support
Enter and update information within the Foundation’s constituent/donor database
Run campaign-specific reports and analyze comparative data
Generate and distribute acknowledgement letters and stewardship materials
Proofread and edit materials produced by the Development team (writing as needed)
Coordinate development-related mailings throughout the year
Conduct preliminary research on prospective donors
Assist with the routine planning of meetings and special events (scheduling, collecting RSVPs, preparing materials, creating nametags, taking minutes, etc.)
Create content for the Foundation’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube)
Help with the design and distribution of DCBF News, a monthly e-newsletter highlighting current events and initiatives
Minimum Requirements
2 years’ experience in an administrative role, preferably with a non-profit
Proficiency with the MS Office Suite (emphasis on Excel, Word and Outlook)
Experience with CRM databases preferred (Salesforce a plus)
Experience with social media marketing
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Ability to appropriately handle confidential information
