DC Bar Foundation Internship Opportunity

The DC Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. DCBF is the leading funder of civil legal aid in the District of Columbia. We are committed to the vision that residents of the District have equal access to justice, regardless of income. DCBF’s mission is to fund, support, and improve legal representation of the poor, vulnerable, and otherwise disadvantaged in the District of Columbia. The Foundation seeks a dynamic student interested in legal services and non-profit foundations.

DCBF’s Core Values are at the center of our commitment to ensure all District residents have access to the legal help they need without regard to knowledge, wealth or power. They are: (1) Equitable Justice, (2) Community-Centric, (3) Collaboration and Partnership, (4) Mutual Trust and Respect, and (5) We Stand Against Anti-Black Racism. Each core value is implemented across our projects and programs.

Internship Overview

  • Interns work with DCBF staff to assist in implementing various projects across the organization.  Some areas of work include:

    • Communications. Interns will work with Communications staff to plan content and review articles for the monthly newsletter, website, and media outreach. Sample work in the past has included feature articles on a specific grantee organization and the impact of the Foundation’s funding. Interns may create photo, print, and video content for DCBF’s social media platforms.

    • Programs and Grants. The Foundation supports nearly every organization in the District that provides free legal help to people who cannot afford an attorney. This internship offers unique exposure to DC’s civil legal aid community, including the chance to network with grantee leadership, research, and participate in the grantmaking process.

    • Development. The Foundation has several campaigns and events throughout the year. Interns will help with event planning and learn best practices on how to fundraise for a mission-driven organization.

    • Operations and Research. Interns work with the Foundations Operations team to implement and conduct research in areas of staff engagement, organizational administration and financial oversight.
