Lawyers admitted to practice in the District of Columbia are required to hold IOLTA-eligible funds in an interest-bearing trust account remitting to the DC Bar Foundation, with some limited exceptions. Please see the Lawyer FAQs for more details.

Enrollment in the DC IOLTA program is easy!

Step 1:
Simply select a participating financial institution. Banks vary widely in terms of the net yield on IOLTA accounts, so shop around to get the best rates on your IOLTA funds. All DC IOLTA Prime Partner Banks offer highly-competitive rates, generating more support for DC legal services. Is your bank a DC IOLTA Prime Partner Bank? If not, encourage them to sign up.

Step 2:
Download the IOLTA enrollment form and Account Checklist, and follow the instructions for opening and registering your DC IOLTA account. Don’t forget to send the form to the DC Bar Foundation:

2000 P Street, NW, Suite 530
Washington, DC 20036
FAX No: 202-467-3753

Client funds that you deposit in your IOLTA account -- which would not otherwise earn interest -- will start earning interest for the DC IOLTA program.
